This is primarily due to the high house prices in London and the South East, making affordability a bigger barrier than elsewhere in the country. In June 2020, the average house price in London was 490,495 and 327,558 in the South East. According to Which Money, the average deposit for a first-time buyer in London in 2019 was 109,885.
