Maidenhead is a beautiful, tranquil riverside town that’s popular for London commuters. Nestled in the Thames Valley, Maidenhead mixes riverside tranquillity with a lively social scene. Indulge in some serious retail therapy at the local boutiques, savour a gastronomic feast in one of the many Michelin-starred restaurants close by, or unwind with a meander along the iconic Thames. Maidenhead is a peaceful, charming town that is worth a visit and a wonderful place to live.

The location

Maidenhead at first glance looks like a sleepy but beautiful town but if you look deeper, you will discover a town with a rich history. It is home to the oldest roman villa named Cox Green, it was discovered by aerial photography in the 1950s, and dug up nine years later. It is one of the oldest and highly advanced villas discovered anywhere in the world. It’s also home to one of the best restaurants in the UK, Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck restaurant. Heston is a chef known for his creativity and his ability to create the ultimate dining experience by cooking unique, flavoursome and delicious masterpieces.  Maidenhead also has the worlds largest railway bridge that was built by the legendary late civil engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Maidenhead was also the home to one of the most popular 90’s girl group in world, The Spice Girls! None of them were from the town but spent a considerable amount of time living together in a house creating songs that catapulted them into stardom and created “Spice girls mania”. Maidenhead promises an easy commute for both work and play – with the train station just a short walk away. Fast rail services whisk you to central London in under 35 minutes, and to Reading in as little as 12 minutes. Local towns such as Slough, Marlow and Windsor are easily accessible, with the M4 just a short drive away.

Education

Maidenhead has a good selection of secondary and primary schools that offer a fantastic education. One of the highest rated primary schools is Lowbrook Academy, a great school that prides itself on giving students a high quality, individualised learning experience. Teachers at Lowbrook adopt a differentiated approach to learning to ensure that children of all abilities can grasp new concepts at their own pace. They have an “Outstanding” Ofsted rating and has been rated one of the best primary schools in the area. Another amazing school with an Ofsted rating of “Outstanding” is Newland’s Girl School, a school listed in the top 10% of state schools that aims to ensure that students receive the education, support and opportunities they need to achieve incredible things.

Things to do in Maidenhead

Maidenhead might be a harmoniously quiet town but it is filled with things to do. All of life’s essentials are close by, from supermarkets and high street brands to local independents and regular farmers’ markets selling freshly baked good, fresh fruit and vegetable and local brands of jam and hot sauces. Whether you’re a player or a spectator, Maidenhead is home to several sporting clubs – famed for golf and hockey, rugby and rowing. Don’t miss the annual Regatta, which has been an important sporting and social event since 1893. Looking for a thrill?  Take to the skies with professional flying lessons at West London Aero Club, based at the famous White Waltham Airfield. Enjoy a sky-high flight ‘experience’, or train to become a qualified pilot. If you’re a nature lover head over to Braywick Park Nature Centre, observe the thriving wildlife in the 15 hectare Local Nature Reserve, perfect for taking a walk or enjoying a picnic.
