Pancake Day: the best places to go

Published: 20 February 2023
Pancake Day is coming up next week! Have you planned for this sweet delicious day yet?

While last year it fell in March, Pancake Day in 2023 will be next Tuesday, on the 21st of February. Also known as Shrove Tuesday, it is traditionally the last day of "indulgence" before the 47 days of Lent, up to Easter.

While in Christian tradition this is a day of celebration as last time before entering a period of restraints, in modern times we take this as a "cheat day", where we can temporarily abandon our diets and just allow ourselves to drink and eat whatever we want. Hence the sugary meals and drinks!

So what are the best places to go if you just joined or are planning to join our new developments and properties?

Ealing

If you're around Ealing, you're lucky to find some nice independent cafes. One of these is 11 Coffee & Co.: a cosy and modern cafe where you can find good quality coffee, cakes and of course delicious pancakes. Reviewers on Google mentioned their generous sizes and flavoursome choices. Sounds like a good option for Pancake Day!

Welwyn Garden City

You have a couple of options if you live in Welwyn. There are some nice cafes all around and one of these that serves pancakes is Trio. It sits in the city centre and also offers a full range of breakfast choices. However, if you have a car, you could also drive 25 minutes and try The Waffle House, a specialized restaurants for both sweet and savoury waffles.. as well as pancakes! Great for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Upton Square & Nottingham

If you recently moved in into our Upton Square new development, you should definitely go and try one of the most historic British pancake cafes: the Olney Pancake Parlour. A tradition that dates back to 1445, the local women, as well as international participants, will have a run competition in the area with frying pans in their hands! If you want to be part of this tradition, this is the place to go. Not to mention that their pancakes are just delicious.

Hope Green or Stanford-le-Hope

You'd never say but this cafe has one of the best pancakes of the Hope Green: Efe's. The reviews are really positive and the pancakes in the pictures just look amazing. As an alternative, you can reach Lemon Witch in less than half hour and enjoy these splendid pancakes by this independent cafe.

Farnham

If you live in Farnham, the favorite's restaurant by the locals for good pancakes seems to be Bill's; the pancakes here are just really good. However, if you want to break away from the typical chain restaurants, you can travel in just 15 minutes to La Creperie: a French place where they serve sweet and savoury crepes--they are not exactly pancakes but close enough.

It will definitely be worth the visit once you try their dishes.
