We’re sharing our top five favourite interior trends of the moment to help you on your way

We understand making a house a home is one of the most rewarding aspects of becoming a homeowner, which is why we’re sharing our top five favourite interior trends of the moment to help you on your way. So without further ado, here’s some ideas for your home, which don’t have to break the bank...

House plants

There’s no doubt the house plant trend continues to grow and we intend to water it! Whether it’s a decorative hanging basket, a small potted succulent or a statement fern, these are a great way to inject some life and colour in and around your home. According to the Royal Horticultural Society, they can improve wellbeing, reducing airborne dust as well as carbon dioxide levels.

Top tip: Even if you’re not well-versed in plant-keeping, there’s a whole range of low-maintenance plants that could work for you and your home - visit House Plants Expert’s website for the breakdown!

Gallery walls

A feature gallery wall is a great way to spruce up a blank canvas in your home. Showcasing your favourite posters, prints and photos can really add personality to a room and make it your own. It doesn’t have to drain your bank account – you can source images online and print at home, or browse the internet for some good deals; Desenio has some beautiful prints which are really reasonably priced. You can also source frames from local charity shops for a rustic, mixed and matched look.

Top tip: lay your frames down on the floor before fixing to the wall to perfect the aesthetic, then secure – if you’re in a rented or shared ownership home make sure you check your decorating regulations and use damage-free picture hanging strips.

Velvet

The velvet hype doesn’t seem to be subsiding. Homeware website Wayfair has seen a staggering 500 per cent increase in searches for velvet sofas and a 1,000 per cent increase in the search for velvet wallpaper! But it’s not just the living room where it’s thriving, velvet headboards are another way to add a touch of luxury to your bedroom.

Top tip: Velvet is great...in moderation. Consider pairing a velvet armchair or sofa with a contrasting fabric cushion to add a different dimension and texture to your interiors.

Scandi-vibes

Heading to Ikea is almost a rite of passage for first-time buyers and rightly so! Scandinavian-style homeware is still standing strong in the interiors world. Cool sleek lines of simply designed furniture blended with cool woods and neutral colour schemes set the scene perfectly in a modern apartment.

Top tip: Consider using your storage items as statement décor – a simple black, metal garment rack could be the chic finishing touch to your bedroom or spare room and the perfect excuse to showcase your favourite clothes.

Lighting

When it comes to the general ambience, it’s the small touches and attention to detail which makes all the difference and your choice of lighting can do just that. Consider the style of your home and pick wisely - whether it’s a chandelier, industrial floor lamp or a hanging bulb light feature, these fixtures can really tie a space together.

Top tip: Use a statement bulb (energy efficient of course) for maximum stylistic effect.
