Our six top tips for organising a stress-free housewarming party

Published: 20 September 2019

You’ve moved into your SO Resi home sorted out your internet connection and unpacked some boxes, so what comes next? A house-warming party of course. It’s your chance to show off your new home and celebrate such an exciting milestone with all of your friends and family. Saying that, you have just moved, so you probably want to make any entertaining as stress-free and budget-friendly as possible. We’ve got you covered, here’s our six top tips to help you on your way.

Get Settled in first: tempting as it may be to get all your friends and family round as soon as you pick up the keys, you might want to wait until you’ve settled in a bit more – at least make sure you have somewhere for your guests to sit, even if it is deckchairs!

Guest List: Don’t feel you have to invite almost everyone you know. You’ll probably enjoy it more if you keep the guest list limited to those you actually want to share this momentous and intimate occasion with. However, if you’d like to branch out, perhaps invite a neighbour or two – a great way to break the ice. If you want some top tips on how to do so, make sure you check out our blog on getting to know your neighbours.

Set a budget: You could save money by sending free invitations via Facebook events or purchasing your decorations from places like eBay - if you've got some free time, you could make them yourself.

Give Your Space Order: Control the fun by dedicating one room to be the main party area.  This way you don’t have people running riot through your new home. Many SO Resi homes feature fabulous open-plan living spaces, perfect for parties.

The grand tour: How about giving your guests a walk-through of each room and give everyone a chance to admire your new digs.

Music: As new kids on the block, remember to be mindful of your new neighbours. Great apps like Spotify or iTunes let you create playlists of your favourite songs. Alternatively, if you have a smart speaker, you could let your guests play DJ.

Top tip: If you’ve been invited to a housewarming party, it might be nice gesture to offer a small gift. This might be the usual bottle of fizz, or even something practical like a starter kit of cleaning products or key ring – your hosts will appreciate it once the party is over!
