Getting onto the property ladder is a huge step for first time buyers. The next step? Making your house a home.

Choosing the right furniture is an integral part of perfecting your property’s interior design; finding the balance between style and comfort within your living spaces is crucial.

To help you on your way, we’ve put together a roundup of brands to consider when sourcing your furniture, including the budget-friendly options that make all the difference after paying for the big move.

Wayfair

Wayfair is a great go-to website for all things ‘home’ – they stock a variety of items at a range of different prices which reflects the latest design trends. What’s more, for added value, they have a ‘Room Ideas’ section for interior inspiration.

John Lewis

As a department store, John Lewis has a lot to offer. Although on the more expensive side, they offer high quality items and plenty of choice, plus they always promise to price match. Furniture can be delivered to your door and smaller items can be collected in store or from your local Waitrose, making it a convenient option.

 Home Sense at TK Maxx

TK Maxx boasts of “big brands at small prices”, and their homeware stores, Home Sense, are no different; you can often get expensive items – and the overall look - without the price tag. It offers a range of furniture pieces, with a selection of quirky styles, colours and patterns.

eBay

eBay is a great source for affordable furniture, as well as some higher end pieces, so you never know what gems you might find! An added bonus of eBay is that some items are up for auction opening up opportunities of nabbing yourself a bargain.

Facebook

Did you know that you can find things to buy from people and businesses on Facebook? Their ‘Marketplace’ makes it easy to source items such as furniture. You can adjust the listings that appear by sorting by distance or the date listed.

 Gumtree

Gumtree is the first website for free classified ads in the UK – there’s a range of second hand furniture available to buy locally and at a reduced price or sometimes for free! And on the other hand, if you’re looking to get rid of unwanted belongings during your move, you can list them on there at no cost.

Ikea

As the world’s largest furniture retailer, Ikea is an obvious ‘go to’ for new homeowners. From its staple flatpack items to house plants and kitchen utensils, it offers a range of products at really reasonable prices. If you’re going for a Scandi-‘Hygge’ vibe, this is the place for you.

Up-cycle

If budgets are tight, think about revamping your existing furniture. Give your bed frame a fresh lick of paint, or attach new handles to your kitchen cabinets to add some flare, and create a new, polished look. If you’re stuck for inspiration, take to Pinterest  for a range of easy, cost-effective ideas!
